Backup Power Funding for Texas Facilities

Texas set aside $1.8 billion to help critical community facilities install backup power. If your facility serves public safety or public health, you may qualify for grants and low-cost loans through the Texas Backup Power Package (TBPP).

What you could receive:

Grants up to $500 per kW of backup capacity
Forgivable low-cost loans for additional project costs

Funding goes to the facility owner. Awards are competitive, so facilities that move early are best positioned.

Who qualifies:

Hospitals and clinics
Nursing homes and assisted living centers
Police and fire stations
9-1-1 and emergency operations centers
Water and wastewater utilities
Community heating and cooling centers
Gas stations and convenience stores in rural areas and along evacuation routes

What the system includes:

This isn’t a standby generator. A qualifying package combines natural gas or propane generation, battery storage and solar. It must run 48 continuous hours in islanded mode.
